美島菊名 写真作品集 HOPE　2018年

彼女の少女は浮遊している。空気の中を、水の中を。単純にはそう見える。

やがて少女は知る。その浮遊感は少女であることで与えられたものであることを。

それは自分が学生になると明白になる。女子学生という枠にハマることによってのみ自分自身でいられることを。

学校を卒業すると、女性という枠の中でしか自分が見られえていないことを思い知る。それも「賞味期限」の付いた。

女性が撮る女性あるいは少女。男性が撮るときには、「可愛い」とか「美しい」と思う感情と一緒に「異性」としてみているはず。リンゴや風景のような単なるオブジェを超えた何かを感じているはずだ。

女性が女性を上手に取る一番単純な方法は、男性の視線を獲得すること。2番めの方法は難しいが、男女の差を乗り越えた全世界的な視線を獲得すること。でもこれは超人的なことだし、個性のない作品になってしまう。

最後の方法は、対象を通じて自分自身を撮ること。赤裸々に自分自身を語ること。と言っても、難しいことではないし、難しい写真にする必要もない。そこに映し出される自分は、当然社会と結びついている自分であって、社会からどう見られているか、社会が自分に何を押し付けようとしているのかが自ずと表現される。結果としてそれは社会批判となるはずなのだ。ならなければ、自分に対して嘘をついていることになるし、そこには諦めの気持ちが入っている。最近の風潮はその「諦め」だが、美島菊名は正面からそれを受け止め、芸術として表現している。

写真集に収められた作品は、2010年から2017年のものまであり、表現方法は変わっていっているものの中心はぶれていない。

見事な写真集だと思う。

Her girl is floating. In the air, in the water. It looks simple.

Eventually the girl knows. That floating feeling is given by being a girl.

It becomes obvious when she becomes a student. Being able to be on your own only by being addicted to the frame of female students.

When she graduates from school, she realizes she can only be seen within the framework of women. She also has an “expiration date”.

A picture of a woman or girl taken by a woman. When men shoot, they should see it as “another gender” along with emotions that they think “cute” or “beautiful”. You should feel something beyond a simple object like an apple or landscape.

The simplest way for women to take advantage of women is to gain male gaze. The second method is difficult, but you need to get a global perspective that overcomes the gender gap. But this is superhuman, and it becomes a work without personality.

The last way is to take a picture of yourself through the subject. Talk about yourself naked. That said, it’s not difficult, and you don’t have to make it difficult. Of course, you are the one who is connected to society, and how you see it, and what society is trying to impose on you. As a result, it should be a social criticism. If you don’t, you’re lying to yourself and you have a feeling of “praise”. The recent trend is “praise”, but Mishima Kikuna accepts it from the front and expresses it as art.

The works included in the photo collection are from 2010 to 2017, and the way of expression has changed, but the center of it has not been blurred.

I think it’s a wonderful photo collection.
